Nick PasseyI grew up in Utah County. My family has several generations of musicians. My great-grandfather played banjo in the 1930s. My grandparents were musicians; my grandmother sang at over 2000 funerals and taught voice lessons and my grandfather played in dance bands and, later in life, took a career as a high school music teacher. There was always singing and music at family gatherings and events. My mother taught vocal lessons for over 30 years and started me singing and rehearsing shortly after I was able to speak. There are old tape cassettes kicking around of me as a 4-year old singing the best a 4-year old can that serve as my naked baby photos anytime my mother wants to embarrass me. I started playing guitar when I was 14. I grew up singing and wanted to be able to provide my own accompaniment. I played in various bands performing at school assemblies, house parties, events, etc. I sang in the chamber choir in jr. high and played jazz guitar in the high school band. Writing my own music started with my very first band where Jordan Fairbanks from Baby Gurl was my drummer with a bass player named Ben. We learned cover songs, we wrote parody versions of other songs, and wrote originals.https://www.facebook.com/events/462101577605600/

Cinnabar Aprés Music with Nick Passey

Snowbasin Resort 3925 E Snowbasin Rd, Huntsville, UT

Cinnabar Aprés Music with Nick Passey Nick Passey is a Folk singer-songwriter that has been passionately dedicated to the craft of music for most of his life. Born into a family with generations of musicians he was introduced to music at a very young age by his mother, who was a voice teacher, giving him vocal lessons shortly after he began to form words. Starting his first band at the age of 14, Passey began as the lead singer but inevitably merged as the guitarist as well since no one else knew how to play. This initial do-it-yourself attitude on facing roadblocks has catapulted Passey into the musician he is today. With his last album released in 2017, Passey has been hard at work developing his next two albums. He is consistently creating new music that indulges in the struggles of everyday life through a therapeutic, matter-of-fact outlook. As an entertainer, Passey is able to connect to audiences with his humorous and heavy-hearted approach to life’s trials. Regardless of your mood, Passey’s live performances will have you swaying and singing along to the catchy choruses and relatable lyrics.

Austin Lucas, Nick Passey at RYE Diner & Drinks

Rye Music Experience PresentsAUSTIN LUCAS NICK PASSEY 6pm doors All Ages Tickets: $15 https://www.austinlucas.com/ Austin Lucas has come home. It’s been over two decades since the songwriter packed his bags and left Bloomington, Indiana, the Midwestern town where he spent his childhood years falling in love with rock & roll, embracing his punk roots, and standing his ground whenever intolerant locals didn’t understand his way of life. He returns to that place – both creatively and physically – with his seventh studio album, Immortal Americans. Written after a tumultuous period that found Lucas getting sober, supporting his partner through a battle with cancer, and breaking up with his longtime record label, Immortal Americans is a clear-eyed album for murkier times, rooted in stripped-down heartland rock songs that find the artist reflecting upon the changes in both his hometown and himself. Co-produced by Lucas and Will Johnson (Centro-matic) and recorded/engineered by Steve Albini and captured in a series of live, full-band performances, Immortal Americans was written after Lucas resettled in Bloomington. He’d been away for years, touring the world as an independent solo artist before signing a record deal with New West in 2013. In many ways, the albums he released during that period were reflections of the music he’d grown up with, from the mountain music of his father (bluegrass musician Bob Lucas) to the punk records that soundtracked his teenage years. Appropriately, Lucas earned a fanbase as a folksinger with punk roots – or was it the other way around? – while touring the country with artists who represented both ends of that spectrum, sharing shows with Willie Nelson one minute and Chuck Ragan the next. Somewhere along the way, his vices began to get the best of him. He started drinking too much. He gained weight. His marriage crumbled. Albums like 2013’s cowpunk-inspired Stay Reckless and 2016’s Between the Moon and the Midwest shone a light on those challenges, tackling everything from divorce to depression. When Lucas hit rock bottom though, he stopped writing about his temptations and instead, left them behind for good. He headed back to southern Indiana, resettling himself in a town that had changed considerably since he left. There, in a region suffering from an opioid epidemic, an HIV crisis, and a homelessness problem, Lucas focused on rebuilding his career and his body. He got sober, shedding more than 100 pounds. He recounted the […]

W/ Stone Company Live at Piper Down, SLC, UT

Piper Down an Olde World Pub 1492 S State St, Salt Lake City, UT

Born in Texas, educated in Kentucky and refined in Louisiana, Jonathan Stone is a multi-instrumentalist musician and vocalist who has played music in almost every state in the US. Trained in choir at an early age, Stone excelled musically. He grew up in a musical family as his father is a blues piano player. Picking up his first instrument at 15, he was quickly sought after in the musical community of Houston. Throughout college years in Kentucky, Jonathan began playing many times a week while learning native Appalachian music and learning to compose music. Also in Kentucky, he began his studies of the violin. In 2008, Stone moved to southern Louisiana where he began playing with local musicians. They formed a national touring band where he was a featured singer, mandolinist, and violinist. Blending rock, gypsy, folk, blues and jazz – the group toured the continental United States and recorded two albums of original music. At the end of his Louisiana tenure, Stone collaborated with grammy nominated musician Cedric Watson. The two formed an old timey harmony group featuring fiddle and banjo. These experiences have all shaped Jon’s current repertoire which he describes as multiple genres of folk music. Currently focusing on acoustic music, Stone is known for playing mandolin, violin, guitar, and banjo (or whatever instrument he can get his hands on) at any gig – all while serenading the crowd for an intimate musical experience.
